Another Year Rolls By...

Late September is a special time for me personally, because it marks the anniversary of 4GuysFromRolla.com, the Web site I started with a couple of college buddies to serve as an outlet for my interest in ASP.  This September, 4Guys turns six years old.  (If you are interested, you can read a bit about the history of 4Guys.)

Time sure does evaporate right before your eyes, eh?  I wonder where I'd be right now if it wasn't for 4Guys.  Where I live, my wife, my dog, my career, my home, many people I know... all of it can be traced back to that decision to start a Web site.  And that can be traced back to my internship at Empower (a now-defunct consulting/training company in Kansas City) in 1998 where I learned about ASP in the first place.  It's amazing how many of life's very significant results can be mapped back to some very trivial action or decision.

Ok, ok, enough waxing on about pseudo-philosophical matters like an angst-ridden teen.  Back to your regularly scheduled programming in the next post, promise.  :-)

Congrats, Scott. Y'all have done an impressive job! Sure saved me lots of headache in my ASP days.

The first time I heard a buddy of mine mention your site I went, "Huh? Four guys from Motorola?"

Also, good to know you did the right thing in college. Especially, given all the many options... http://photo.thetechzone.com/data//500/2420222.jpg :)

Congratulations, Scott.

Yes, its also interesting how one's decision can become a chain of other decisions. My web log, and my interset in .NET is mainly due to 4guysfromrolla.com.

I am a regular visitor of your site (like million others :-)), and it has lot to do with giving straightening my career. Your blog and your site are tools for a developer than mere web sites.

Good wishes!

"I am a regular visitor of your site (like million others :-)), and it has lot to do with giving straightening my career"

back when i was first into programming for a living, i was only doing Pervasive Tango and thats all i knew

then one day, Pervasive announced they were no longer supporting the product, so in haste our CTO announced to our dev team: "As of today we are moving the app to ASP"

i sat in that meeting in hot water because i didn't even know what ASP stood for, well between 4guys and your book "ASP 3.0 in 21 Days", i picked it up really quick and my career path is set :-)

So i offer you a sincere thanks for 6 years of hard work.....

4guysfromrolla.com is an every day must visit website for me. I started developing asp.net applications since the first releases of the product, and the articles on 4Guys were of great help for me, which is still the case.
